Looking for a solid fishing charter that won't break the bank? Our 4-hour morning trips out of Olcott put you right where the action is on Lake Ontario. At $250 per person, you're getting access to some of the best King Salmon fishing on the Great Lakes, plus we're targeting those hard-fighting Rainbow Trout too. This is a 2-person max trip, so you'll have plenty of room to fish and won't be elbow-to-elbow with a crowd. Our captain knows these waters like the back of his hand and will put you on fish while keeping things relaxed and fun.
We launch from Olcott Harbor bright and early, usually around 6 AM when the fish are most active and the lake's at its calmest. The boat's equipped with everything you need - quality rods, reels, tackle, and all the terminal gear. You'll be fishing the deeper waters of Lake Ontario where the big Kings like to cruise, typically 80 to 200 feet down. The scenery's pretty spectacular too, with the shoreline stretching out and the open lake giving you that real Great Lakes fishing experience. Don't worry about bringing anything except your fishing license, some snacks if you want them, and maybe a cooler for your catch. We supply the coffee to get you going in the morning, and trust me, there's nothing like watching the sunrise over Lake Ontario with a rod in your hand.
We run downriggers exclusively on these trips because that's how you consistently catch Kings and Rainbows on Ontario. The downriggers let us get your bait down to the exact depth where the fish are holding, whether that's 40 feet or 140 feet. We'll be pulling spoons, plugs, and sometimes cut bait depending on what the fish are hitting. The captain will handle all the technical stuff - setting the depths, adjusting speeds, and reading the fish finder - while you focus on fighting fish. When a King hits, you'll know it immediately. The downrigger releases and your rod starts screaming. That's when the real fun begins, because these fish don't give up easy. We'll coach you through the fight, help you work the fish to the boat, and make sure you get some great photos before we put it on ice.
The Chinook Salmon, or Kings as we call them locally, are the main attraction here in Olcott waters. These fish average 15 to 25 pounds, but we see plenty of 30-pounders each season, and the occasional monster pushing 35 pounds. They're staging in the deeper water from late spring through early fall, feeding heavily on alewives and getting fat before their spawning run. Kings are incredible fighters - they'll take line, jump, and make long runs that'll test your arms and your drag system. The best part about targeting Kings here is the consistency. Lake Ontario has one of the healthiest Chinook populations in the Great Lakes, so your chances of hooking into multiple fish are really good.
Rainbow Trout are our secondary target, but don't let that fool you - these fish are absolute dynamite on the end of your line. Ontario Rainbows typically run 8 to 15 pounds, with some real slobs hitting 20 pounds or better. They're acrobatic fighters that love to jump and will often put on a better show than the Kings. Rainbows tend to stay a bit shallower than the Chinook, so we'll often pick them up while we're working our way down to find the Kings. They're also more willing to hit smaller presentations, which makes for exciting light-tackle fishing when conditions are right.
This 4-hour charter gives you the perfect taste of what Lake Ontario fishing is all about without eating up your whole day. You'll be back at the dock by 10 AM with fish in the cooler and plenty of time left for whatever else you've got planned. The price point is honest - $250 gets you professional guide service, quality equipment, and access to some of the best salmon fishing in New York. With just 2 spots available, you're guaranteed personal attention and room to fish comfortably. Whether you're new to Great Lakes fishing or you're a seasoned angler looking for a quick morning bite, this trip delivers the goods. The captain's been fishing these waters for years and knows how to put you on fish, regardless of your experience level. Book now and get ready to feel that bend in your rod when a King Salmon decides your spoon looks like breakfast.
King salmon are the giants of Lake Ontario, averaging 15-25 pounds with some bruisers pushing 30+. These silver-sided fighters with black-spotted backs hang deep in 60-120 feet of water, especially around thermoclines and drop-offs. Early morning and late evening are prime time when they move up to feed. What makes them special? That raw power when they hit your downrigger - they'll peel line and jump like crazy. The rich, orange-pink meat is top-shelf eating too. Here's a local trick: when trolling spoons or plugs, vary your speed between 2.5-3.5 mph. Kings often hit when you change pace, so don't be afraid to kick it up or slow down for a few seconds.

Rainbow trout in Lake Ontario typically run 2-8 pounds, though we see some thick 10+ pounders. These colorful fighters with that signature pink stripe love structure - drop-offs, rocky points, and weed lines in 20-60 feet. Spring and fall are peak times when they're active in cooler water temps around 55-65°F. What guests love most is their aerial show - rainbows jump and fight hard for their size. Plus, that mild, flaky meat with a slight nutty flavor makes for great eating. Pro tip: when the bite gets tough, downsize your presentation. A small spoon or fly behind a dodger often triggers strikes when bigger baits get ignored. Keep your drag smooth - these fish have soft mouths.
